1. Get Organized. Having a plan of what and when you will do it will ensure that you are always ahead of the game – literally.
  2. Do not multitask. Studies show that multitasking can be physically dangerous.
  3. Split it up. It’s not fun to study, so putting yourself through a marathon of studying will only make things worse. Studying will be more fun if you break down your work into smaller chunks. You can also reward yourself for completing each chunk.
  4. Get eight hours of sleep every night. A good night’s sleep will improve your ability to focus and your working memory.
  5. Make a schedule. Are you more productive after dinner or school? Do you prefer to be productive in short 90-minute blocks of work or longer, half-hour-long bursts? Stick to a schedule that is most effective for you.
  6. Take notes. Not only will it keep you more interested in class but also will help you to narrow down the topics you need to study for exam time. It is much easier to go back and reread notes than it is to go through your entire textbook.
  7. Learn. It may seem obvious, but there are two ways to learn. You should review your material at least a day in advance. Do this in small sections and in different ways (e.g., flashcards the first day, practice tests the second). Don’t try to cram.
  8. Manage your learning space. Find the best place to maximize your productivity. You should avoid distractions like the TV and other electronic devices. You can make sure you have a place to study, whether it is at the library or in your bedroom.
  9. Create a study group. It’s a great way for you to review confusing material and prepare for big tests. You can ask each other questions, recite material, and ensure that everyone is on the exact same page. Teaching someone else is the best way for you to learn.
  10. Ask questions. School is there to learn. Don’t be afraid! Asking for help from teachers, tutors, or friends is a great way to ensure you understand the material.
